PID Issues

Working with a MSP. Titan Aero Extruder. I am having a lot of issues with temperature. It seems to take a while to get PID tuning to “stick.” The temperature fluctuates +/- 10º, after several tunings, it eventually works and then the temp is dead flat. Now I come back to my printer after two weeks away and the temp is wildly fluctuating again. Did it forget the PID? I have tuned it a few times again and it is still +/- 10º. I am also getting random thermal runaway errors which I believe is from the bad PID. Would older gcode files have anything to do with this? Why won’t the PID stay consistent?

I do not know it so it it difficult to give advices. But the temp fluctuations are abnormal. Maybe a faulty thermistor or it is not properly fixed?

Most of the time the temp is perfect, but every once in a while it is way out of whack. I don’t think it is the thermistor because it is still new. I have checked the connections several times and they are fine.

Update: So it appears that the PID tuning is working correctly but not saving to the printer. The values displayed on the printer screen were not the same as I pulled via octoprint. I manually inputted the displayed tuned values and the temps seems to be stable. Am I doing something wrong when I PID tune? Does it only display the values and not load them to the printer?

Can you describe exactly what you are doing? Step by step.

On the printer, I go to tuning, PID, set my temperature (in this case 215, 60) and hit go. It does its thing and then display the values. I click the checkmark.
Now when I go pull the PID values via octoprint, they are different from what was just displayed on the printer. I then upload the displayed values to the EEPROM via an octoprint plugin. The problem is, every-time I change temperature I have to manually do this. Does that make sense?

Since you are using OctoPrint, can you copy-paste the content of the Terminal tab? And exactly what values you upload.

For 215 setting I inputted: P-29.08, I-2.98, D-70.89. This works perfect, consistent temp
For 205 setting: As seen below. This one fluctuates about 10º and caused the thermal runaway error.

Both of these values were what the printer displayed after doing the corresponding temp tune.

It does not help much. I do not know what you have done, what are the correct values, etc.
So please copy-paste the full transcript and tell me which are the right values you then entered.

Right now I can’t give you correct values since nothing is stable. What transcript are you speaking of? All the other info is just temperature pings. Is there gcode I can send to get you the info that may help?
Last week, certain temps with certain tunings worked but now they do not. It seems that no matter how many times I tune all temp settings are fluctuating +/- 10º. The values that were working last week @ 215 were p29.08, i2.98, d70.89. Now they are not. The below image is from the current pid tuning at 240. Those values are p8.39, i4.46, d3.92. You can see it starts off well and then goes out of control.

I need logs of a PID tuning when it is NOT matching.

As of this morning. I did a tune without the silicone sock (as recommended by someone) and temps were stable. I changed the temps around a bit to test stability and all seemed well until I went back to 215 again and we’re back to where we started. This time displayed PID and printer settings did not match. Displayed PID settings show 30.83, 3.24, 73.24. The printer is at 30.83, 19.78, 12.0031
